About Holden
The iconic Australian motor vehicle brand Holden built its first car in 1948 by General Motors with the first model being the Holden 48-215. The end of the 1950’s saw more than 500 000 Holden’s manufactured in Australia. Holden enjoyed being market leaders by the mid 50’s with a ratio of two Holden’s owned to one of their nearest competitor. Holden continued unprecedented growth in the Australian market during the 1960’s and 70’s remaining on top as market leader consecutively for 25 years. The 1970’s was a very exciting decade with the introduction of the Holden Commodore. By 1981 the 4 Millionth Holden was sold and in 1988 the VN Commodore won the Car of the Year marking a proud moment in history for the motor group. Holden’s local manufacture will come to an end in 2017 although General Motors intends to still have a long-standing presence in the Australian market for years to come with the Holden brand.
